Glasstown
Coffee Roasters
~ Crystal City, Missouri ~
Crystal City, Missouri, sits on the muddy, silica-rich banks of the Mississippi River, thirty-five minutes south of downtown St. Louis. In the late 1800s, the small town became headquarters to Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, and, within a few short years it became home to the largest plate glass plant in the world. To support the war effort during World War II, Crystal City Works Nine (as the factory came to be known) produced canopy subassemblies for United States Air Force bombers. Later, in the 1960s, it manufactured automotive glass for cars.
The plant closed its doors for the last time in 1991.

We don't think too much about glass in our modern world, but it surrounds us. For hours each week we glue our eyes to the glass screens of our phones, tablets, computers, and TVs; we glare through our smudged glass windshields on long commutes to high-rise office buildings clad with gleaming glass windows. And perhaps it's just cruel irony, but it seems that with all this transparent glass around us we feel more hidden, more disconnected, and more misunderstood than ever before. Maybe that's why we at Glasstown Coffee love coffee so much. It seems to have a delightful way of bringing folks to the table, sparking meaningful conversation, and bridging the differences that seek to divide us. Maybe we're more alike than we think. Despite all our differences, we all want to be known, accepted, and loved as we are.
Here at Glasstown, we roast our coffee with love and care, in hopes that it will bring joy to those who drink it. Whether you're the coffee-snob type who explores the complexities of each roast or the I-just-need-a-jolt-of-caffeine-to-get-me-through-my-day drinker, we hope you feel the love in every cup. We love what we do, and it is our honor to serve you.

Life is short. Drink good coffee.
